She was born in Suzhou, China’s Earthly Paradise, surrounded by canals. The water memory has deeply influenced her creative approach. Having lived on both the East and West Coasts of the United States, she explores the land, the natural world, cultural traditions, and her personal and the collective diaspora experience in her work.
Gladys has received grants, fellowships and residencies from the Center for Cultural Innovation and Plympton. She earned her BA from UC Berkeley, where she studied Psychology and Economics, and her MBA from Columbia University.
